Part Three: The Architecture
Everything you've built exists in a document. Your Base, your mods, your RIPE defaults, your drift protocol — it all lives in structured text. That's not a limitation. That's the architecture's greatest strength.
Because it lives in text, it's portable. You can load it into any AI platform that accepts context. You can update it in one place and have the change propagate to every session. You can version it, share it, and evolve it without touching any code.
This chapter is about deployment: taking your Cognitive OS from a document to an active system running on the platforms where you actually work. One system. Three platforms. All of them speaking the same context, all of them governed by the same mods.
The Three Platforms
Three platforms currently offer the best implementation surfaces for a mod-based Cognitive OS. Each has different strengths. Most practitioners end up working primarily in one, with occasional use of the others for specific tasks.

Deploying to Claude Skills
Claude Skills is the current best implementation surface for mod architecture. The structural parallel is direct: a Skill is a composable context unit with a standardized format, loadable and stackable — exactly what a mod is.
A SKILL.md file has two components: a YAML frontmatter section at the top that defines metadata, and a markdown body that contains the actual context. Your mod activation calls translate directly into this format. The YAML frontmatter carries the name, description, and activation trigger. The markdown body carries the Purpose, Behavior, Tone, Constraints, and any other structural elements.

The deployment steps are straightforward. In Claude's Skills interface, create a new Skill for each mod. Paste the formatted content. Set the activation trigger. The Skill is now loadable in any Claude conversation with a single phrase.
For your Charter Mod — the one you want active across all sessions — mark it as a default Skill. This loads it automatically without requiring an explicit activation call. Your values layer becomes ambient, always present, never needing to be summoned.
DEPLOY YOUR SYSTEM TO CLAUDE SKILLS Open your Base document. Identify your three core mods: Charter, primary Persona, and most-used Protocol. Format each mod as a SKILL.md file using the template above. Charter first — it needs the most care in the YAML trigger definition since it may load automatically. In Claude Settings, navigate to Skills. Create a new Skill for each mod. Paste the formatted content. Set triggers. Mark your Charter Mod as a default Skill. This ensures your values layer is always active. Test: open a fresh Claude conversation without any manual loading. Verify your Charter is active by asking: what values govern this session? The response should reflect your Charter's content. Test persona loading: type your Persona Mod activation phrase. Verify the behavioral shift is visible in the AI's response. Run a real work task through the fully loaded system. Compare the quality and character of the output to what you got before your system was deployed.
Deploying to Gemini Gems
Gemini Gems work through a system prompt plus document upload. The system prompt carries your global instructions and primary mod content. For a full Base payload, export your Cognitive OS document as a PDF and upload it as a reference document.
The mod architecture translates reasonably well to Gems, though the structural precision is less exact than Claude Skills. Treat the system prompt as your Charter plus Persona layer. Upload the full Base as a reference document that provides the knowledge layer. Protocol Mods can be activated conversationally using your standard activation calls.
Gemini Gems work best as a secondary platform — useful when you're collaborating with people in Google Workspace, or when a specific task benefits from Gemini's particular strengths. The system is the same. The surface is different.
Deploying to Custom GPTs
Custom GPTs were the original proving ground for mod architecture, and they remain useful for a specific purpose: distribution. When you want to share your system or a subset of it with others — clients, collaborators, community members — a Custom GPT is the most accessible delivery vehicle.
The system prompt carries your Charter and Persona. Files carry your knowledge layer and any reference material. The configuration interface gives you control over behavior parameters that complement your mod context.
For your own daily work, Custom GPTs have been superseded by Claude Skills in terms of structural precision. But for sharing a curated version of your system with the world, they remain the most accessible option.
One System, Maintained in One Place
The most important operational principle: maintain your system in one place and deploy from there.
Your Base document is the source of truth. When you refine a mod, you refine it in the Base. Then you update the corresponding Skill, Gem, or GPT from the updated Base. The platforms are deployment surfaces, not storage systems.
This matters because platforms change. Features update. New surfaces emerge. If your system lives in the platform, it's tied to the platform. If your system lives in your Base document, it's portable to wherever you need it next.
The architecture is yours. The platforms are just where you run it.
YOUR FULL DEPLOYMENT CHECKLIST Export your Base document as a PDF and a plain text or markdown file. These are your deployment payloads. Deploy your Charter Mod to Claude Skills as a default Skill. Verify it loads automatically. Deploy your primary Persona Mod to Claude Skills. Set its activation trigger. Deploy your most-used Protocol Mod to Claude Skills. Set its activation trigger. Create a Gemini Gem with your Charter and Persona in the system prompt. Upload your Base PDF as a reference document. Create a Custom GPT if you want a shareable version. Configure it with a curated subset of your system appropriate for the audience you're sharing with. Run your standard work session across all three platforms in a single week. Note where the behavior is most consistent with your system and where it diverges. Adjust your deployment content accordingly. Set a calendar reminder for three months from now: Base Review. Version, update, redeploy.
Your system is deployed. Your architecture is live. The building is done.
What comes next isn't a chapter — it's practice. Every session refines the system. Every refinement gets encoded. Every encoded refinement makes the next session better. That's the loop. That's the work.
